Pregnant women risk harm to their babies when they abuse drugs. How much harm depends on the type of drug, the severity of the abuse, and the period of the baby's development during gestation.

While there are some prescription drugs that a woman may have to take during pregnancy, even certain prescription drugs can be dangerous to a developing infant.

Alcohol can be just as devastating, if not more so, with infants often suffering foetal alcohol syndrome.

In this course, you can find out more about how babies are affected in the womb, caring for a substance-addicted baby, and the issues that arise.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand how babies are affected in the womb
  • To understand the effects on the nervous system
  • To know what this means for those caring for a drug and alcohol-addicted baby
  • To know how to support these babies
  • To be aware of support for carers and staff

This course is specifically for employees who work within Leaving Care and is fully CPD accredited.

Should you have 5 or more learners requiring this training please consider the face to face option we offer.
